Adonis

This drink is a vintage cocktail and belongs to a sub category of drinks whose era consisted of drinks named after religions such as the Presbyterian, Bishop, and Algonquin. The Adonis was a late 19th century and early 20th century cult which is based on Tammuz.

This Greek mythology following may not have been where the drink derives. There was a very popular essay written by Shakepeare during the late 19th century that may explain the introduction of this drink as seen here:

French Vermouth (kiss)

Orange Bitters
