This drink was indirectly named after the Vietnam era bomber (B 52). Here is an early printing of this drink:

"The B-52, like the musical group, certainly makes you aware of all your senses. B-52"

Many believe this drink was created in Canada in 1977 however, there is no strong evidence supporting this, nor any other specific location of origin. This drink also appears in:

Lipoprotein protocols - Page 21 by J. M. Ordovas in 1998

There are several variations to this drinking including the "B 53" a "B 51" which contains a shot of Bacardi 151 and even a B 52 with Bombay Doors, which includes a shot of Bombay Gin, these are all direct derivitives of the B 52.
