Bikini Martini

This drink is unknown to many, but it was a very popular drink even as early as a decade ago. Here is an early printing of this drink:

The book of cocktails - Page 60 by Jenny Ridgwell in 1986

"BIKINI - 3 oz vodka juice of l/2 lemon 1 oz white rum l/2 oz milk 1 teaspoon sugar cracked ice Pour vodka, lemon juice, white rum, milk and sugar over ice in shaker. Shake until frosty. Strain in to glass."

It is undetermined why the exact name was chosen, there was nothing significant enough about the fashion industry or bikini's themselves that would have launched this drink into culture. They have always been a fashionable wear at beaches and other warm climates and locations.

Certainly, this drink was named during the era of naming drinks terms closely associated with sex. Fortunately, this drink has a much cleaner name than the drinks that would soon follow in the same era. It is unclear where this drink originates, we can only assume a location where bikini's were worn often during this time frame. Perhaps, a favorite spring break hotspot, such as Cancun. This is only speculative though.

This drink has remained popular and still is not that uncommon as seen by the following recent publications:

Bartender's Guide by John K. Waters in 2007

Diffordsguide Cocktails 7 - Page 65 by Simon Difford in 2008

Mr. Boston: Official Bartender's Guide by Anthony Giglio, Mr. Boston in 2008

This drink dates between 1984 - 1985 and contained at least as of then:
